About

I am a 22 year old artist now based in the High Peak having graduated from the University of Oxford in 2023. I draw on tracing paper and have always done so since I studied A-Level art in 2018. Tracing paper is one of the many translucent objects that interest me although I have not yet been able to pinpoint exactly why they interest me so much. I am often inspired by objects with see-through qualities like snuff bottles made of jade and agate, glass beads and insects (particularly their wings and shadows). These objects are rich in cultural symbolism that provide, what I find to be, a beautiful and engaging foundation for my work.

My foremost aim for my work is for it to be visually appealing and secondarily to explore links between some personal interests of mine. Some works look at tales of historical female revenge and others have looked at Japanese superstitions. I use my art as a sort of vehicle for personal research and justifications for hours down an internet rabbit hole. My range of interests are quite varied so I do find fun in creating drawings to try and find visual links and harmony between the different areas.
